  • Ideas behind the Queensland Chinese commemorative marriage certificate:

I gained inspiration from Chinese Familie Rose porcelain (Falangcai) which was introduced in the 18th century. Large quantity of them were exported overseas and be loved by both Chinese and people around the world.

    Elements in this design:

Double Happiness Character | The character "囍" is written in Chinese calligraphy, and frequently appears on traditional decorative items, associated with marriage. Its circle shape represents completeness in Chinese tradition.

Rose Canton Pattern | Rose Canton is a style of porcelain that developed in 19th century. 'Rose' refers to the colour, and the actual flower depicted in the pattern is a peony – the national flower of China which is the symbol of love, honour, happiness, wealth, romance, and beauty.

Peaches | In China, peach is considered a blessed and lucky fruit. It’s a symbol of immortality and longevity. When peaches appear in the wedding, it means that the couple are blessed that their life is as sweet as peaches and they can live together forever.

Ruyi lock (Lock of good wishes) | It has been a popular Chinese protective talisman from time immemorial. It looks like ganoderma lucidum, is the traditional Chinese auspicious plant. Ruyi Lock, as a symbol of love, is a pledge given by the couple to each other. It is romantic and represents wishing the other person all the best.

Leaves | It represents the exuberant vitality. In China, there is an idiom “開枝散葉” (open branches and scatter leaves), which means wishing the couple‘s family longevity and can pass their wisdom to the future generations.

Heart totem | A variety of hearts represent love and romance.

Queensland sun totem | This unique totem represents Queensland - the Sunshine State. It’s in the shape of a flower, with golden, sun-like flowers at the top. The slightly curved branch represent the Queensland coastline.
